Mr. William Art Vann “Son”, 89, of Lillington passed away Monday, July 24, 2023. He was born in Harnett County, the son of the late Needham Vann and Betty Mae Guy Vann. In addition to his parents, Son was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Nell Vann; his brothers, Percy and Billy “Doll” Vann and sisters, Lizzie Mae “Boots” Matthews, Will Adams, Ruby Lee Fish, Faye Johnson, and Marjorie Johnson.
Son “Billy Vann the wheelchair man” worked and retired from the VA Medical Center in Fayetteville after 30 years of service as a maintenance mechanic. During his years at the VA Medical Center, he received many service awards. He also served as a volunteer for the Angier Rescue Squad for several years. He loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and horses. Son loved spending time with his family, especially his three girls, and riding his grandchildren, great grandchildren on the golf cart.
Son is survived by his 3 daughters, Terry Lynn Vann, Sheila Vann Byrd, husband Terry, and Kimberly Vann, all of Lillington; 4 grandchildren, Stephanie Lee Brunson, Danielle Carmen Lee, Shawna Michelle Adams and Christy Nell Sterbenz-Lee; 6 great-grandchildren, Rullaman and Jordan Wellington, Riley and Chandler Adams, and Tate and Madyson Lee; sister, Betty Connell of Linden; many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, July 27, 2023, at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home in Lillington and other times at the home of William A. Vann. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, July 28, 2023, at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Chapel. Burial will follow at Harnett Memorial Park.
