William Arthur Sawyer, 83 of Cary, NC passed away Monday June 22, 2026, at his home. He was born on September 1, 1942, to the late Caul and Eva Sawyer in Harnett County.
William was a dedicated Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged after 2 years of service. He then went to work for IBM where he retired after more than 30 years.
He was a fiercely devoted caregiver to his beloved wife for 17 years until his own health declined. William loved farming on the family farm in Buies Creek.
William is survived by his wife of 55 years Paulette Sawyer; son, Andrew Sawyer (Chrissy); grandchildren, Justice, Thomas, Ava, and Walter Sawyer; sisters, Annie Lee Gainey (Steve) and Betsy Warren; nephews, Kenneth Warren, Jon Gainey, Randy Pickard and Nick Cates; niece Sherry Canovali; as well as his special friends at Pam’s Farmhouse Restaurant in Raleigh.
The family invites friends to visit at the Andrew Sawyer residence in Fuquay-Varina on Thursday June 25, 2026, between 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. The family will also receive friends Friday June 26, 2026 10:00 A.M. – 10:45 A.M. at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow in the Chapel at 11 A.M. with Pastor Rob Hardy officiating. Services will conclude with the burial at Harnett Memorial Park.
