Virginia Adams Obituary

Virginia Hergert Adams, 90, of Buies Creek, North Carolina, died peacefully in her home, January 27, 2021.  Virginia was born November 11, 1930 in Baltimore, Maryland, to Carl A. and Helen D. Hergert.

“Ginnie”, as she was known by friends and family, grew up in Forty Fort, Pennsylvania, the eldest of five siblings.  After she graduated from Wyoming Seminary High School in Kingston, Pennsylvania, she enrolled at the University of Miami, in Coral Gables, Florida. After her freshman year, she transferred to Duke University, in Durham, North Carolina, where she graduated, earning her degree as a registered nurse.

Virginia was married to her college sweetheart, Charles A. “Chick” Adams for 60 years, until Chick’s passing in 2013. After starting a family in Mount Kisco, New York, she moved to Richmond, Virginia, and then to Raleigh, North Carolina, where she raised four children in the North Hills area of Raleigh. Virginia was a loving mother, often found volunteering at one of her children’s schools, or chaperoning field trips and events. She created a home environment where family often gathered, and the neighborhood kids were always welcome.

In the early 1980s, the family moved to Fayetteville, North Carolina, where she worked tirelessly alongside her husband, developing a successful paper distribution business. In the late 1980s, her passion for caring for others saw her return to nursing at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville, North Carolina. After retiring from Cape Fear Valley Hospital, Ginnie and Chick relocated to the Keith Hills community of Buies Creek, North Carolina in 1990.  She then traveled the world with her husband, while staying active in the Buies Creek community, Memorial Baptist Church, and the lives of her numerous grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2021, at 11 am in Harnett Memorial Park with Rev. A. Edward Beddingfield, Jr. presiding.  Friends are invited to visit the funeral home on Friday, February 5, 2021, between the hours of 9 am to 4 pm to pay their respects to Mrs. Adams.  The family will not be present at this time.
