Tommy Lee Matthews Obituary

Tommy Lee Matthews, 83, of Angier passed away Sunday July 13, 2025. He was born April 10, 1942, in Harnett County to the late Woodrow and Helen Matthews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Hilda Weaver and Marie Matthews.

Tommy is survived by children, Lori Matthews, Teresa Rupp (husband Daniel), Richard Matthews (wife Julie), Donna Preddy (husband Michael), Shea Barbour (husband Scott); 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Cathy Matthews; brothers, Johnny and Jimmy Matthews.

He retired from the Southern Railroad Company. Tommy was an avid gardener, fishermen, and loved the outdoors especially watching his birds from his favorite recliner in the sunroom. He was a lifetime member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where he served in many roles. Tommy will be missed for his many story telling memories. He never met a stranger from the grocery store to the many restaurants he visited.

A graveside service will be held at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Angier, Wednesday July 16, 2025 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Rick Jefferds officiating.
