Thomas Clifford “Tommy” Sexton, 90, of Lillington, passed away Sunday November 14, 2021, at Central Harnett Hospital.
He was born September 15, 1931, in Harnett County to the late Laura Parrish Sexton and James Roger Sexton, Sr. Tommy was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Lewis Sexton, his sons, David Clifford Sexton and Steven Frederick Sexton, his stepmother Esther Secrest Sexton, his brothers Billy Sexton, Jim Sexton, Fred Sexton, and Coll Sexton, and his sister, Kathryn Sexton Edgerton.
Tommy served his country honorably as a soldier in the U.S. Army. He was a faithful member of Pleasant Union Christian Church in Lillington. Tommy pursued a career in automotive sales starting with his brothers, Jim, and Fred at Sexton Ford in Lillington. In 1980, he went on to open his own independent car dealership called Tommy Sexton Auto Sales. Tommy enjoyed cooking on his barbecue, boating, and vacationing in his motorhome.
He is survived by his son, Ricky Sexton and wife Dell of Wake Forest, NC; his grandchildren, Monica Blair Sexton and Tyler Blake Sexton; his great-grandchildren, Braylyn Miles Bellard and Kingston Knox Gaddy; his sisters, Elizabeth Sexton Earp and Ruth Sexton Rich; and his daughter-in-law, Patty Blackmon Sexton.
The family will receive friends from 1-2PM on Monday November 22 at Pleasant Union Christian Church, 2104 Neills Creek Road in Lillington. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 2PM in the church sanctuary with Dr. Greg Lawson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
