Tamae Akiba Hall, 93, of Lillington, North Carolina passed away peacefully on December 18, 2025. She was born March 12, 1932 (Showa 7) in Miyazaki-ken, Japan to the late Ichinosuke and Kuwako Akiba. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded by her husband, James William Hall; daughter, Gennis Heromi Hall Nelson; and brother, Koji Akiba.
Tamae is survived by her daughters, Diane Hall Byrd (Mark), Tammy Hall (Kevin Cochran), Joanne Hall Davis (James Smith); son-in-law, Ed Nelson (Laura); grandchildren, Amanda Byrd (Ashton Verdery), Andrew Byrd (Ashley), Matthew Nelson (Katie), Joshua Nelson (Molly), Naomi Davis; great-grandchildren, Elodie Verdery, Emmeline Verdery, Chloe Byrd, Kai Byrd; and sisters, Chieko Yamada, Kumiko Tanaka, Kimiko Tateiwa. She is also survived by many special nieces and nephews.
Tamae was an accomplished seamstress and worked for many years with Blue Bell Manufactory/Red Cap until she retired. She is remembered as a great southern cook as well as a master of Asian cuisine. She could regularly be found feeding and watching hummingbirds or enjoying the beauty of flowers. Tamae will be greatly missed ...forever loved.
A memorial service will be held 2pm on Monday, December 29, 2025 at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home, 1310 S. Main Street, Lillington, NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The graveside service will follow at Harnett Memorial Park.
