Shirley Mae Maxwell, Lillington, formerly of Fayetteville, passed from this earth on Saturday, May 2, 2020. She was born in Whitehall, New York on July 13, 1932 to Fred and Marion Rondeau. She graduated from Whitehall High School in 1950 and earned her Associate Degree in Home Economics from the State University of New York Institute of Agriculture and Home Economics in Cobleskill, New York in 1953. Shirley was a homemaker and a dietician. She married Howard F. Maxwell on July 19, 1953, and they had five children. Survivors include two of her sons, Frederick, 65, currently living in Henderson, Nevada, and Mark, 54, currently residing in Stuttgart, Germany, as well as six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Eric, 3, in 1967; her daughter, Krista Worthington, 47, in 2007; her husband, Howard, 77, in 2009; and her son, Howard III, 57, in 2015.
Shirley had a wonderful sense of humor and a singular laugh that rippled through the air causing everyone to smile. She was most proud of her family and dedicated herself to loving her husband and children; she nurtured each of her children to believe in themselves and to love others. She was a special and selfless soul and she will be dearly missed. A memorial service will be held, a date to be determined, at St. Michael the Archangel Maronite Catholic Church, 806 Arsenal Avenue, in Fayetteville, North Carolina and she will be interred in Amsterdam, New York, with her son, Eric, and husband, Howard.
