Robert Wayne Carroll, age 83, of Lillington, NC, passed away on November 21, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family he loved so dearly. He was born on July 16, 1942, in a little house in West End, NC. He attended school at West End High School, Class of 1961.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents Haywood and Mary Lou Carroll; his 5 siblings, Evelyn Morgan, Hassell Carroll, Mary Lee, Ruby Jenkins, and James Carroll; his daughter, Kelly Marie Black; and grandson, Stephen Masten Evans. Robert is survived by his wife, Betty, of 52 years and his four daughters and three sons-in-laws: Sherri Evans (Ray) of West End, NC; Becky Fitzpatrick of Chesapeake, VA; Elizabeth Graveen (Eric) of Lillington, NC; and Kristie Groome (Micah) of Sandston, VA; ten grandchildren, Justin Evans (Jaclyn) of Naples, FL; Brandon Evans of West End, NC; Brooks Fitzpatrick of Chesapeake, VA; Solomon Machado (Brianna) of Angier, NC; Tava, Tyler, Aaron and Terra Machado of Lillington, NC; McKayla and Christian Groome of Sandston, VA; and one great-granddaughter, Jaycee Evans, of Naples, FL. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will greatly miss him.
Robert spent years as a sewing machine mechanic at Bonders in Dunn, NC, where he met his wife, Betty. She worked there as a sewing machine operator. They built a life together in Harnett County and attended Gospel Tabernacle in Dunn, NC. Robert later became a business owner. Robert and Betty also had a business together, Carol’s Petticoats, where he taught all the girls to sew at a young age. It was a family affair that also included his sister, Ruby. He later worked for years at Edwards Brothers Printing as a mechanic, where he retired. Throughout his life, he enjoyed many hobbies such as fishing with his girls, grandchildren and brother, Hassell; tinkering on cars; going to auctions; traveling with their friends, David and Jean Garner, all over the country; and go-cart racing up into his 70s.
Robert was full of life and humor and he cared deeply for his family. He never failed to show up for his wife and girls. He was always ready to drop whatever he was doing to be there for his family’s needs. He was the closest earthly reflection of our Heavenly Father any family could ask for. He never put himself before them. He mirrored the love of Christ for His children in a way that we could never question how much God loves us. Although Robert suffered much loss in his 83 years of life, he always remained humble and his heart was never hardened to the ways of God. He assured multiple family members he was ready to meet his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, over the last month. He had a quiet but resilient faith in his Savior, Jesus Christ. Often, when he was with his entire family, he would often look at Betty, with such pride, and say “Look what you caused!” His legacy will live on for decades through his children and grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m., Sunday, November 23, 2025 preceding the funeral service at 4:00 p.m. at Gospel Tabernacle Church in Dunn, NC. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 24, 2025 at Westview Cemetery, 2264 US 421 N, Lillington, NC.
