Rebecca "Becky" Patterson

Rebecca “Becky” Mae Burns Patterson, age 70, of Broadway passed away on Thursday, December 7th, 2023 at Duke University Hospital surrounded by her family.  She was born in Lee County, daughter of the late Curtis Lee and Juanita Godwin Burns.  She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Glenda Beal and her beloved husband of 51 years, Norman Johnnie Patterson.

Becky attended Sanford Central High School where she graduated in 1971.  She married Norman in 1971 and they enjoyed spending time together dancing at the American Legion along with vacationing with family camping at Carolina Beach.  Becky was a stay-at-home mom with her two children and did everything with them up until they started school.  Once Becky’s children started school, she began volunteering and substitute teaching at Boone Trail Elementary School.  She later became a full-time teacher assistant and bus driver.  Her time at Boone Trail culminated after 30 plus years when she retired in June of 2018.  During this period, she spent much of her time with her five grandchildren whom she loved and adored attending all their functions and activities.  During her grandchildren’s younger years, she began helping and teaching the preschool age Sunday School classes at Holly Springs Baptist Church which she did up until 2023.  After the passing of her husband, Norman, in March of 2022, she found great comfort in her canine companions BeBe and Molly.  These fur babies were her pride and joy and she was blessed to have them visit her in the hospital just days before she passed.

She was very dedicated to her family and enjoyed spending time at the family beach home, going shopping with her two daughters, and loving up on her five grandchildren, which brought her so much joy.

Surviving is her sister, Debbie Burns of Sanford, daughter Norma P. O’Quinn and husband David of Lillington, NC, daughter Amy P. Wilson of Broadway, NC and grandchildren Lisa, Daniel, Laura and Lacy O’Quinn of Lillington, NC and Luke Wilson of Broadway, NC along with several nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.

A funeral service will be held at 3:30 PM Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at Holly Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Yow and Rev. Jerry Parsons officiating. A burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends after the committal service in the church fellowship hall and other times at her home.
