Mrs. Patsy Dean Gentry, 81, of Lillington passed away Monday, July 24, 2023 at her home. Patsy was born in Sampson County, the daughter of the late Amos Van and Elizabeth Puryear Dean. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Danny Amos Dean and wife, Eunice O’Quinn Dean. She graduated from Boone Trail High School in 1960 and Campbell University in 1964 with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. She taught high school Geometry and retired after 30 years of teaching. She enjoyed crafting which included gardening, painting, quilting, and sewing for her great nieces. Patsy was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Mamers.
Patsy is survived by her husband of 58 years, Walter L. Gentry of the home; nieces, Monica Stewart and daughter Kayleigh Stewart, Magan Love and daughter Kensley Love; nephew, Damon Dean and wife Cristy Dean, their children, Kaden, Sawyer, and Emerson; sisters-in-law, Carol Wall and husband, Rev. Arthur Wall, children, Stephanie Kraczkowski and husband, Kevin, daughters, Caramia and Chloe, Aaron Avery son of Stephanie, Sharon and Matthew Farber, daughter, Maggie, Susan and Nathan Steven, sons, Noah and Samson; Frances Thomas and husband, Baxley Thomas, children, Neill B. Thomas, III, his children, Ava, Tyler and Addison, Walter Thomas and wife Tracy, children, Nolan, Chandler, and Jeremiah, Diana Owen and husband Cole Owen, children, Rayleigh, Reed, Reagan, and Kennedy.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-2:45 PM Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Antioch Baptist Church in Mamers. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM in the sanctuary with Rev. Rick Beacham, Rev. Dan Deaton, and Rev. Dr. Arthur Wall officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
