Mrs. Nora Cathryn McDonald Blanchard, 96, of Buies Creek, passed away Saturday March 28, 2026, at her home surrounded by her family. 

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Harnett Memorial Park with Pastor Greg Lawson presiding. The family will receive friends following the service at her home. 

Nora Cathryn McDonald Blanchard’s life was a beautiful testament to devotion, rooted in the town of Lillington, where she grew up with her siblings. For 69 years, she and her husband built a life defined by loyalty and deep affection, creating a warm and loving home that served as the heart of their family. 

Nora's influence extended far beyond her front door. She spent her career serving the community within the public and private school system, nurturing local students with the same care she gave her own family. Her faith was her compass. She offered guidance and strength to her congregation for decades. 

Above all, Nora was a matriarch who lived to give. She was known throughout the community for her generous spirit and her talent in the kitchen, often sharing homemade desserts with friends and neighbors. She is lovingly remembered by her 3 children and 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward the legacy of a woman who dedicated her life to faith, education, and the sweet, enduring power of family. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph Brantley Blanchard; son, Donald Blanchard, her sister, Dot Thomas and her brothers; Allen, Norman, Lauchlin, Duke, Mack, Joe, Eddie and Billy. 

Nora is survived by her son, Samuel Brantley Blanchard and wife Beth of Buies Creek; daughters, Cathryn Bugg and husband Jay of Atlanta, GA and Jill Eagan and husband Fred of Fuquay; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
