Natalie Cole Obituary

Natalie Renee Giles Cole, a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, and friend to many, died unexpectedly on November 17, 2019 at the age of 25.

Natalie was born at Rex Hospital in Raleigh on December 11, 1993. She grew up in Fuquay-Varina and attended Fuquay-Varina High School. Natalie fulfilled a dream of becoming a nurse by earning her Associate’s degree in nursing from Central Carolina Community College. She later earned her Bachelor’s of Nursing from Winston-Salem State University and became an emergency department nurse, working for several years at Cape Fear Community Hospital in Fayetteville and WakeMed Healthplex in Garner. For the past year Natalie had worked as a trauma nurse at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.  She had been accepted into the nurse practitioner school at the University of South Alabama and was scheduled to begin coursework in January to earn her degree as an acute care nurse practitioner, fulfilling another dream. She was also due to begin a new job in December at Duke Hospital in Durham, bringing her closer to her family in the Triangle.

Natalie had a smile that would light up a room and an infectious laugh that would brighten any mood. She was very playful and loved to joke around and be silly. Natalie was naturally beautiful, both inside and out. Caden and Alexandria were her highest priority and she loved them deeply. As a single mother, Natalie worked hard to succeed in her profession so she could provide financially for her children. Natalie loved the adrenaline of working as an ER nurse and was skilled at working in high-pressure situations. Her colleagues often commented on her compassion and dedication as a nurse.

In her time outside of work, Natalie cherished spending time with her children, parents, siblings and friends, doing things that brought her joy – being outdoors and taking hikes, eating at eclectic restaurants, traveling to the beach and mountains in both NC and Colorado, and going to concerts of her favorite artists. She loved the Baltimore Orioles, and took road trips with her Dad to see them play live – she even had Adam Jones toss her a ball, a treasured memory. Almost as much as she loved the Orioles, Natalie loved Starbucks, everything about the Fall season, and Christmas, her favorite holiday. Always a “Daddy’s girl,” Natalie convinced her Dad to travel to Ireland with her in May 2016 – they had the time of their lives.

Natalie was a baptized child of God, and knew Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was a life-long member of Fellowship of Christ Presbyterian church in Cary. Natalie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her memory will forever be cherished in our hearts.
