Michelle Short Obituary

Michelle Renee Short (affectionally referred to as “Chelle,” “Momma,” or “Love Bunny” by her husband; “Mom” by her kids, and “Gram” by her granddaughters), age 56, went to be with her Savior on July 9, 2025. Many women have done excellently, but she surpassed them all as a woman who feared the Lord and was worthy of praise (Prov. 31:29-30). She was born March 30, 1969 in Bethesda, Maryland to Michael and Alessandra Fuka. She married Billy Douglas (Doug) Short in Baltimore, Maryland on December 22, 1990. She was a woman of unusual talent who seemed to excel at everything she put her mind and hands to. Gardening, sewing, baking, breeding puppies, refurbishing furniture, laying tile, and the list goes on, she excelled at them all. With children, she was often referred to as the “baby whisperer” because of her unusual talent of comforting and calming children. In the counselling room, she was wise in the counsel she would give to brides and brides-to-be. As a hostess, she caused friends and strangers alike to feel like they were family in her home. As a pastor’s wife she sacrificed and labored to ensure that, whatever context they were serving in, the ministry was God-honoring and oriented towards service to others. While she worked in various capacities over the years, including nearly 10 years helping individuals with special needs develop communications and life skills, the job that gave her the greatest joy was that of mother. She would often say that Mother’s Day was her favorite day of the year because that was the role that she was most proud of and that which gave her the most satisfaction. She often spoke of how proud she was of her children as she watched them become responsible and loving adults. As a wife, she made her husband feel loved and cared for. She was always ready to follow him into the next adventure even though sometimes it meant stepping outside of her own comfort zone. When he said, “I love you,” she would always respond, “I love you more.” If he tried to claim to outdo her love for him with his own love for her, she would invariably say, “impossible.” The only tears she cried when told of her cancer diagnosis were spilled at the thought of missing seeing her grandchildren grow up. She so desired to be a grandmother who spent time with the grandkids teaching them all that she knew. The most important thing about Michelle was/is that she was/is a daughter of God through her faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior. The home was full of songs of the praises of His name and her faith often outshined that of her pastor husband’s. At the end when asked what she wanted, she simply said, “I want to be with Jesus.” Cancer is a horrible thing, and we rejoice in the confidence that she no longer knows sorrow nor pain but only joy everlasting. She is survived by her husband of nearly 35 years; daughter, Kailee Breann Mace and her husband Matt Mace and their two children Flora and Vivian; son, Nathaniel Parker Short and his wife Beth; son Benjamin Joel Short and his wife Kaitlyn; and her two dogs Amelia and Primrose.
