Michele B. Mitchell

Michele Buchanan Mitchell, 58, of Lillington, NC passed away Sunday November 14, 2021. She was born May 27, 1963, the daughter of the late Fred Bruce Buchanan and Fran Collins Johnson. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, the late Cad and Alda Collins and the late Brodus and Letha Buchanan, all of Lillington.

Michele is survived by her mother, Fran Collins Johnson and husband, Joe Johnson, of Lillington; children, Dana Mitchell Pollard and husband, Lyle Pollard of Benson; Daniel Mitchell and wife, Jessica Mitchell of Willow Spring; brother, Michael Gilchrist of Raleigh; grandchildren, Gwendolyn & Gavin Pollard; Raelyn and Holden Mitchell; beloved friend, Marshall McLean of Lillington.

Michele was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Mamers. She loved her Sunday School Class, “The Friends Class,” and was a faithful prayer warrior. Her gift of encouragement, as well as her card writing ministry, brought joy and comfort to others.

Michele attended Central Carolina Community College. She retired from Coats Elementary School in 2017 after 30 years of service as a teacher assistant. She had a special fondness for her students and invested her energies into their learning experience. Nothing was too difficult when it came to making life better for the children.

Michele has bravely battled cancer since 2014. Her faith in God, through countless radiation and chemo treatments, provided remarkable courage and strength. When she got her treatments, she always thought of the other patients and nurses and hoped she could make them “laugh, not cry”. Even in her darkest days, she never gave up hope, and continued to be a witness of God's amazing grace and mercy.

Michele had a huge capacity to love, and she loved with her whole heart. Her smile was infectious and radiated the love of Jesus.

Michele loved spending time at Holden Beach with her family where she enjoyed the beauty of God's masterpiece. Her favorite things included: sending cards, buying gifts for others, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at Antioch Baptist Church in Mamers, with Reverends Rick Beacham and Josh Stewart officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the graveside.
