Michael "Mike" John Metz

Mr. Michael “Mike” John Metz, 73, of Lillington passed away Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Central Harnett Hospital in Lillington. Mike was born in Aberdeen, SD, the son of the late Arnold Edward Metz, Sr. and Olive “Jean” Polen Metz. In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his son, Brandon Arnold Metz and a sister, Coralie Jean Arnette.

Mike excelled in any sport he played in high school. He was an elite 3 sport athlete, he loved football, basketball and track. His relay team still holds the high school record many years later in St. Claire High School in Michigan.  Mike always had a passion for cars, especially his 1969 Black Impala SS, he continued his love of working and tinkering with cars throughout his life.  Mike had 2 brothers and 2 sisters. His brother Jerome considered Mike his "protector" as his other siblings did as well. He was love and respected deeply by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mike loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren and they were his everything. His love for his wife Nancy was a love that we all had the honor and privilege to watch over the years and was unmatched by the greatest of love stories. Mike never met a stranger, he always made you feel important and you knew you left his friend.

Mike is survived by his wife, Nancy Collins Metz of the home; daughters, Stacy Gerber (Mark), Jennifer Hollingsworth (Donny), Tammy McNeill (Chris), Amanda Durazo (Shane), Lauren Walden (Jamie), son, Michael Welch (Gwen); bonus daughter, Amber Whiteside (Paul); 27 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brothers, Arnold “Arnie” Metz, Jr. (Mary), Jerome Metz (Judy); sister, Jacque Metz (Steve Cooney); many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home. A private celebration of life will be held on Thursday.
