Melba S. Jones

Mrs. Melba S. Jones, 90, of Bunnlevel went to Heaven on September 23, 2021. When she entered into the gates of Heaven, there waiting for her was her husband David and parents Paul and Claire Smith. What a wonderful reunion that must have been for living a virtuous life.

Melba was a stay-at-home mother and later employed with Burlington Industries. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Bunnlevel for 65 years and her life showed she loved the Lord. Melba was known for her caring of others including her husband and both parents. Most importantly, she was a wonderful Mama and Nanny. Not too much ever got by her and she would let you know it. Those who reflect on memories of Melba could not help but smile thinking of her sense of humor.  

Melba is survived by a son, Donald Jones and wife Debbie of Raleigh; daughter, Shirley Jernigan and husband Kenneth of Lillington. She has three grandchildren that she loved more than words could express, Ken Jernigan and wife Helene of Cary; David Jernigan and wife Evelyn of Fuquay-Varina and Ana Jernigan of Cary. Added to her blessings were five great-grandchildren, Cameron, Connor, Caleb, Ava and Reagan Jernigan.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Angie McPhail for the excellent care, love and friendship she gave to our mother.

A private family graveside service will be held at Harnett Memorial Park in Lillington. Friends are invited to visit O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home on Sunday, September 26, 2021, between the hours of 9:00 AM and 2:30 PM to sign the guest register book for Mrs. Jones. The family will not be present during this time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Liberty Homecare and Hospice, 105 Hunt Valley Dr., Dunn, NC 28334 or Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000 Boone, NC 28607.

In accordance with current North Carolina COVID-19 guidelines, the funeral home requests that everyone in attendance practice social distancing and wear a face covering.
