Maxine Patterson Upchurch

Mrs. Maxine P. Upchurch, 88, of Broadway passed away June 15, 2023. She was born in Harnett County, the daughter of the late Taft and Ilene Patterson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her two daughters, Donna U. Patterson, and Melanie U. McLeod; grandson, Charles Marcus Patterson; and sister, Yvonne Patterson.

Maxine was a homemaker and loved children. She enjoyed cooking for those she loved and tending her flowers. She loved visits to the beach with family and cherished the time they spent together. In addition to this, she was a talented seamstress and often made her girls clothes. Maxine worked as a childcare provider for many years, keeping numerous children in the community. Later, she used her cooking talent to prepare meals at a retirement home. Some of Maxine’s most enjoyed times were spent on trips traveling with her husband. Even though she will be dearly missed, we find comfort in knowing that she and Daddy are back together once again.

Maxine is survived by her daughters, Karen Thomas and husband Randy of Lillington, Charlene Harrington and husband Randy of Broadway, Paula Arnold of Southport, Jennifer Blalock and husband Larry Joe of Broadway, nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; brother, Bud Patterson; sisters, Gladys Cummings and Shelby Taylor; numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM Monday, June 19, 2023, at Holly Springs Baptist Church in Broadway with Rev. Scott Yow and Rev. Jerry Parsons officiating. A burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at her home.
