Mattie Dismuke Morton, 97, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 8, 2020. Mattie was born December 24, 1922 in Wren, Georgia and lived there for 21 years. On December 29, 1943, she married Marvin E. Morton from Holly Springs, NC and moved to North Carolina to begin her life as a Wife, Mother, and “Nanny” to her family.
Mattie entered the workforce after being widowed at the age of 49 and worked until she was 85 years old at Senter’s Rest Home. They often teased her about the fact that she was older than most of the residents and still working. She loved cooking and helping the patients.
Mattie was a faithful member of Baptist Grove Church and loved attending and serving at her church until declining health made it impossible for her to continue.
Her life was a living example of her favorite Bible verse, Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
She cared deeply for her family and loved to gather for holiday and birthday meals, making precious memories with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
All whom loved her dearly will never forget her independent spirit, energy, and excellent memory.
She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Wester (Larry); Cathy Blanchard (Ricky); son, Bobby Morton (Jaxie); grandchildren, Candy Dix (John), Jonathan Wester (Monica), Katie Currin (Brandon), Noah Blanchard (Brandi), Korrie Blanchard Smith (Ryan); great-grandchildren, Joshua Wester, Jace Currin, Rylan Currin, Lyla Grace Currin, Lucas Dix, Logan Dix, Wayne Blanchard, Brantley Blanchard, and Eli Smith.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin E. Morton.
A private, graveside service will be held Saturday, December 12, 2020.
