Maryland Dickerson

Mr. Maryland Dickerson, 74, of Lillington passed away Monday, December 12, 2022, at his home. He was born in Vance County, the son of the late George Daniel Dickerson and Maude Gray Pendergrass Dickerson. In addition to his parents, Maryland was preceded in death by his wife of 19 years, Rita D. Simmons Dickerson; brothers, William Allen Dickerson, and Edward J. Dickerson.

Maryland loved living in Lillington. He enjoyed riding around the downtown area in his golf cart/truck visiting with friends and local businesses. Maryland was a member of Lillington Baptist Church. He attended public school through the ninth grade. Maryland transferred and graduated from the Governor Morehead School for the Blind in Raleigh, where he learned braille.

Maryland is survived by his brother, Michael G. Dickerson of Louisburg, NC; sister, Marie D. Pittman (Earl) of Henderson, NC; brother, Maynard Dickerson (Marie) of Macon, NC; sister, Myrtle G. Lassiter of Youngsville, NC; several nieces and nephews.

A guest register book will be available for friends to sign on Thursday, December 15, 2022, and Friday, December 16, 2022, from 9:00 AM- 5:00 PM at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, January 1, 2023 at Warrenton Church of God, 512 S. Main St., Warrenton, NC 27589.

The family would like to thank everyone in the community who helped Maryland fix his golf cart/truck, drove him to the grocery store or any other act of kindness.
