Mary "Libby" Elizabeth Chapin Graybeal

Mary Elizabeth Chapin Graybeal (“Libby”), 95, passed away peacefully January 12, 2026, at Glenaire in Cary, NC.  Libby was born in Harnett County on August 13, 1930, to the late Hiram Thompson Chapin and Louola McCormick Harman Chapin.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Dr. Dawes B. Graybeal; daughter, Mary Jo Albert; as well as all of her siblings.

Libby is survived by her son, David Graybeal (Mary); son-in-law, Harry Albert (Sheryll); three grandchildren, Melanie Davis, Matthew Albert (Jessica) and Andrew Albert (Katie); six great-grandchildren, Caleb and Micah Davis, Nathan and Lincoln Albert, and Drew and Grant Albert.

Libby and Dawes met in college at Lees-McRae and began a lifetime of service with the Presbyterian church.  She enjoyed music, gardening, and caring for and helping other residents at Glenaire.  Her greatest joy was her great-grandchildren.  She was greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

A funeral service will be held 12:00pm on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Summerville Presbyterian Church with the graveside service to follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends following the graveside service in the fellowship hall.
