Mary (Wallace) Roberts

Mrs. Mary Wallace Roberts, 99, of Lillington, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, January 10, 2021.

Mary was a devoted homemaker who loved to cook, to knit and crochet, an avid reader and to can lots of vegetables from Lemley’s garden.  She was also a den mother for the Cub Scouts.  Later in her life she was confined to a wheelchair, however, that did not slow her down.  She still loved to travel, and she kept her mind sharp to the very end by playing Sudoku and doing Word-Find puzzles.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2021, at 2 pm in Lillington Baptist Church with Rev. Daniel Selman presiding.  The burial will follow at Westview Cemetery.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Roberts, Sr., her parents, Daniel Banks and Ruth Elizabeth Wallace, her brother William Wallace and a sister Catherine Aeker.

She is survived by her son, James L. “Jimmy” Roberts, Jr, and wife Jane Roberts, of Lillington; daughter, Marye “Susie” Shelton, and husband Jesse, of Lillington; son, Dan M. Roberts, and wife Daphine McLean Roberts, of Lillington; son, Wallace E. “Wally” Roberts, and wife Debra Collins Roberts, of New Bern; 11 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Martha Wallace Ward of Greenville and Marion Banks Hart of Mt. Olive.

Friends are invited to visit O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 13, 2021, between the hours of 9 am and 4 pm to pay their respects to Mrs. Roberts. The family will not be present during this time.

The family asks that memorials be made to Lillington Baptist Church, PO Box 670, Lillington NC 27546.

In accordance with current North Carolina COVID-19 guidelines, the funeral home requests that everyone in attendance practice social distancing and wear a face covering.
