Mary Frances Abernathy Caviness

Mary Frances Abernathy Caviness, 94, of Fuquay-Varina, passed away May 03, 2025 at her home.

A native of Harnett County, she was born on August 27, 1930 to the late Clarence Estelle and Cornelia Frances Lanier Abernathy.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Glenwood Caviness; two brothers, Davis Abernathy, Clinton Abernathy; and two sisters, Inez Hollifield & Aleise Sockell.  Mrs. Caviness was a lifetime member of Cumberland Union Baptist Church in Fuquay-Varina and served throughout the church during her lifetime.  She was a master seamstress and loved making clothes and costumes for her children, grandchildren and sisters.  She was an amazing cook and enjoyed cooking for her family. She provided childcare for her grandchildren until they entered public daycare. She enjoyed making crafts and teaching them about the outdoors. She might even be seen jumping on the trampoline with them.  She spent many hours watching her grandchildren at sporting events. 

Mrs. Caviness was an avid gardener and loved planting flowers and vegetables, in addition to helping her husband working on the farm.  She was just a great “Southern” mother who always took care of everyone and served as caregiver for her mother, two sisters, and a brother in their later life. Her greatest enjoyment beyond her family was being outside where she took great pride in her yard and flowers.

Surviving are her daughter, Mary Lou Faucette and her husband Rob; son, Marty Caviness and his wife Kelly, all of Fuquay-Varina; four grandchildren, Jason Faucette and wife Laura; Amy Schenk and husband Ryan, Lauren Watkins and husband Daniel, Joshua Caviness and wife Nikki; and 7 great-grandchildren, Ava Faucette, Jase Faucette, Parker Watkins, Coralee Watkins, Bree Schenk, Laina Schenk, and Kenzie Caviness.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at 12PM at Cumberland Union Baptist Church, 2259 Cokesbury Rd, Fuquay Varina, NC 27526 with Reverend Jonathan Lotz officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 11 AM until 11:45 AM.
