Mabel "Maybelle" Collins Hilton

Mabel “Maybelle” Collins Hilton, 79, of Lillington passed away at her home May 11, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.  She was born in the Luart community (between Lillington and Mamers) on November 25, 1945 to the late George Washington Collins and Callie Elizabeth Page Collins.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Atlee C. Hilton; and sister, Rachel Collins.

She is survived by her daughter, Shannon Hilton LaBelle (husband, Jeffrey); brother, Jesse Collins (wife, Phyllis); niece, Dee Barker (husband, Kevin); great-nieces, Brittany Spartz (husband, Matthew) and Savannah Barker; great-great-niece, Adelynn Spartz.  She is also survived by aunts, Beulah Wicker, Louise Clark, Judy Rayfield (husband, Bev), Elizabeth Page; brothers-in-law, Harold Hilton (wife, Kate), James Hilton; sisters-in-law, Martha Hilton, Margaret Hilton; and many more beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mabel worked for both Boone Trail Elementary and Western Harnett Middle Schools as a cafeteria worker and bus driver.  She loved the kids and her coworkers.  Mabel was known for having a great sense of humor and she loved to laugh. She was an active member of the Antioch Baptist Church and served in many capacities (nursery worker for 47 years, active member of Sunday school where she occasionally taught class, VBS coordinator several years, singer in the choir, and player on the softball team to name a few).  She loved to write songs and poetry, some of which were published.  Mabel had a big heart for people and had a special way about her that made everyone feel like family when they were with her.  She was a devoted wife and mother and was a caregiver to several family members.  Mabel was a hard worker and someone who could be counted on.  Family meant everything to Mabel and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

The family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 2:30pm on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at Antioch Baptist Church, 6670 Old US Hwy 421, Lillington, NC.  The funeral service will begin at 2:30pm with Rev. Todd Moore officiating, followed by a graveside service in the church cemetery.
