Barbara Lisa Thigpen, “Gigi”, age 58, formerly of Surf City, NC, went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 8th, 2020, after a strong fight against Breast Cancer and Leukemia. Lisa was a beloved member of the Surf City and Burgaw communities and of Surf City Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Barbara and Mac McDaniel, of Surf City, and sister Debra Lee Lane, of Knightdale.
Lisa was born on June 21st, 1962, in Raleigh North Carolina and attended James Kenan High School. She married Carl Thigpen, Jr., at the young age of 17, in Dillon, South Carolina—a true love that would last her lifetime. Lisa made many friends throughout her careers working as a military wife and mother, a local bowling alley, bank teller, and finally (as what she loved the most, following in the footsteps of her sister) a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. Throughout it all, her biggest “job,” her pride, and her life passion was her family. She was the core, the glue, and the forgiver. She set the example for us all of how to just be a good person. Lisa loved the Lord, had many friends, no foes, and bore a love to her very core which was purely contagious. She could also make a mean pecan pie.
Lisa will be incredibly missed, and is survived by, her husband of 41 years, Carl Thigpen, Jr., her daughter, Christy Thomas, and son, Carl Patrick Thigpen, III. Lisa was also survived by her sister, Bobbie Ann Austin, and three grandchildren, who she held so very dear to her heart, Landon and Mackenzie Thomas, and Ethan Thigpen. Lisa prized little more than being their “GiGi.”
Lisa enjoyed bowling, fishing, swimming, boating, and laughing. Her primary dedication was to her family, her heart was pure and honest, and her smile will be forever etched in our memory. Heaven has surely opened the gates and welcomed in a beautiful angel.
A celebration of Lisa's life will be held Saturday, December 12, 2020 at the home of Bobbie Austin, friends and family may visit and pay their respects between the hours of 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM.
