Lee Morgan III

Bernard Lee Morgan, III, of Sunset Beach, North Carolina, passed away on December 13, 2022 at the age of 60 with his family by his side after a hard fought battle against leiomyosarcoma.

Lee was born on July 9, 1962 to Janet Sutton Howard and Bernard Lee Morgan in Wilmington, NC. He grew up with his younger sister, Suzanne, in Wrightsville Beach, NC. After Lee graduated from New Hanover High School in 1981, he went on to study at UNC-Wilmington, where he played soccer and earned a Communications Degree. While attending UNC-Wilmington, Lee met Rhonda Cox, who he would later marry. He also attended Cape Fear Community College and became a licensed general contractor and real estate agent.    

After finishing his studies, he went on to  build a number of custom homes, which led him to starting his own home inspection business, Inspect One, Inc. Lee took great pride in his work and was regarded as one of the best inspectors in the area. Additionally, Lee was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. In his spare time, Lee enjoyed fishing, hunting, surfing, and soccer. Lee loved to stay active, but no matter what he was doing or where he went, he made sure to always bring his dogs, Gunner, Sam, and Bella, with him.

Lee married Rhonda Cox Morgan on May 20, 2000; they were married 22 years. During their marriage, Lee and Rhonda enjoyed traveling, boating, and spending time with their beloved pets. 

Lee is survived by Rhonda Morgan (wife); Janet Sutton Howard (mother); Suzanne Morgan Hamilton (sister) and David Hamilton (brother-in-law); Morgan Hamilton (Lauren) (niece), Emmie Hamilton (niece), and Tyler Hamilton (niece); Jean and Willard Cox (mother and father-in-law); Michael and Gerri Cox (brother and sister-in-law); Tony and Melinda Howell (sister and brother-in-law); Shelby Bonifay (Michael) (niece) and Brian Howell (nephew); Matt Cox (Tess) (nephew) and Meredith Colyer (Brett) (niece).

Lee is preceded in death by Bernard Lee Morgan, (father).

A graveside service will be held 2 PM Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Harnett Memorial Park, Lillington, NC 27546, with Rev. Barrett Payne officiating.
