LTC(Ret.) Robert G. Barker

LTC(Ret.) Robert G. Barker, 92, of Lillington passed away Friday August 5, 2022, at Universal Healthcare in Lillington.

He was born August 11, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Gladys Reuter Barker and LTC(Ret.) John Howard Barker. Robert was preceded in death by his son, Dr. David Scott Barker and his brother, LTC(Ret.) John Howard "Jack" Barker, Jr.

Robert served his country honorably in the United States Army. He began his military service as an enlisted soldier and later completed officer candidate school to earn his commission. His service included one tour in Korea and an additional tour in the Vietnam War before his retirement. Robert enjoyed spending time outdoors admiring nature and working in his yard. He loved to watch classic movies and listen to music. Robert had a talent for inventing and repairing anything mechanical. He was a faithful member of Memorial Baptist Church in Buies Creek, NC.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Jeanne M. Barker; his sons, Robert G. Barker, Jr., and wife Karin and LTC(Ret.) John L. Barker and wife Theresa; his grandchildren, Jeanna Barker Bullard and fiance Trey Perry, Maj. James Robert Barker and wife Lauren, Jessica Barker Adams and husband Myron, and Daniel Barker; his great-grandchildren, Raina Bullard, Robin Barker, and Annabeth Bullard; and his brother, LTC(Ret.) George Donald Barker.

A graveside service with military honors will be held Friday August 12 at 12PM Sandhills State Veteran Cemetery, 8220 Bragg Blvd. in Spring Lake, NC with Rev. Edward Beddingfield officiating.
