Mrs. Karen U. Thomas, 72, of Lillington passed away Friday, February 7, 2025, at UNC Rex Healthcare in Raleigh. She was born in Lee Co., the daughter of the late Charles and Maxine Patterson Upchurch. In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by her sisters, Donna Upchurch Patterson, Melanie Upchurch McLeod and a nephew, Marcus Patterson.
Karen retired 12 years ago from the U.S. Marshal Service where she served for 20 years as an investigative research specialist with the violent fugitive task force. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. Karen loved to go to the beach and surf fish at Topsail. Her Christ like heart and love for Jesus shown through her service to others. Karen had a love for music and enjoyed listening to KLove. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. Karen enjoyed gardening, always wanting to share what they had grown either by cooking or sending home something they had canned. She had an annual zinnia garden, cutting those to share with friends and family.
Karen is survived by her husband of 50 years, Randy Thomas of the home; 2 daughters, Patty Raynor and husband, Keith of Lillington, Leah Thomas of Lillington; 2 grandsons, Barrett Raynor, Patrick Raynor; 3 sisters, Charlene Harrington and husband, Randy of Broadway, Paula Arnold of Southport, Jennifer Blalock and husband Larry Joe of Broadway; many special nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10:30-11:45 AM Tuesday, February 11, 2025, in the Holly Springs Baptist Church multi-purpose building. A funeral service will follow in the church sanctuary at 12:00 PM with Rev. Scott Yow, Rev. Jerry Parsons and Rev. Ashley Cummings officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
