June McDonald Obituary
Shelby June Bowers McDonald (“June”), 82, of Lillington, died peacefully at home with her family by her side, Monday, July 10, 2023.
June was born in Cherokee County to the late Edd & Ruth Bowers. She was a 1959 graduate of Bryson City High School and worked in the public all her life. She never met a stranger, helped anyone she could, had the ability to always be positive and encourage others, was a loving Christian, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward McDonald; siblings Peggy B. Heckerman, Jerry L. Bowers and Tony R. Bowers.
June is survived by her daughter, Paula McDonald Whitsell (Marty), grandson, Caleb M. Whitsell, sister-in-law, Sandra Bowers, special nephews, Ray Roberts and Charlie Roberts along with other nieces and nephews.
She unselfishly donated her body to science in the hopes that someone could learn something either about her cancer, her AMD or as a teaching tool.
A private memorial will be held at a later date .
A special thank you to our family that live across the miles for the calls and support and all of the staff at Central Harnett Cancer Center, the Lab and Gentiva Hospice. Words can’t convey how much you all mean to us. We were truly blessed to have received such wonderful care and to have many wonderful friends and family.
