Joyce Jordan Oliver

Joyce Jordan Oliver, 85, of Lillington, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at her home in Lillington, NC.  

Joyce was born December 30, 1937 in Harnett County, NC to the late N.J. Jordan and Thelma Barbour Jordan.  She was a 1956 graduate of Lafayette High School and was employed with the Harnett County Sheriff’s Department, retiring with over 20 years of service.  Joyce was the first female deputy sheriff of Harnett County.   She was a member of Lillington Baptist Church.  During retirement, she volunteered with the Guardian Ad Litem Program at Harnett County Social Services and traveled to every state in the United States and visited almost every continent.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Oliver, and brother, J.B. Jordan. 

She is survived by her daughter, Amy O. Wade and husband, Bobby of Fuquay-Varina; two sons, Michael Oliver of Lillington and Glenn Oliver, Jr. and wife, Beverly of Kissimmee, FL; sisters, Shirley Strickland of Fuquay-Varina and Blanche Black of Sanford; brother, Robert Jordan of Fuquay-Varina; seven grandchildren, Michael Jr., Matthew, Amanda, Kimberly, Krystle, Rachel and Hannah; and seven great-grandchildren, Ashton, Emily, Audrey, Kylie, Madeline, Reagan, and Princess.  

A funeral service will be held 11am Monday, June 5, 2023 at Lillington Baptist Church, 210 W. Lofton St., Lillington, NC 27546 with Rev. Chris Hall and Rev. Dennis Burton, D.Min officiating. Burial will follow the service at Harnett Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends 4pm – 6pm Sunday, June 4, 2023 at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home, 1310 S. Main St., Lillington, NC 27546.
