Joyce Anna (Gregory) Harrelson

Joyce Harrelson, 79, of Lillington, NC, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on May 29, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Albert Lee Harrelson. 

Born and raised in Harnett County, Joyce was a beloved member of her community, known for her genuine warmth and unwavering love for others. Many knew her from her restaurant, BJs Diner in Lillington, where she served equal helpings of warm southern hospitality and home cooking for more than 25 years. Throughout her life she enjoyed many simple pleasures including gardening, tending to her chickens, and fishing. After retiring, Joyce focused on what she valued most, sharing quality time with her family. Joyce's absence will be deeply felt, but her spirit will forever remain a guiding light in the hearts of those who loved her.

Joyce leaves behind her four children: Tammy and her husband Scotty Scarborough, Brenda and her husband Jimmy Coats, Barbie and her husband Marty Taylor, Chad and his wife Christine Harrelson, nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren; her sister, Dottie Hood; and brother, Jerry Gregory and his wife, Marie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Irene Gregory; sister, Sue Powell; brothers-in-law, Billy Powell and Howard Hood.

The family will continue to receive friends and family at the Harrelson home from 4-6pm, Friday, May 31st and a service and celebration of Joyce's life will be held on Monday, June 3rd at Memorial Baptist Church in Buies Creek, NC, at 3pm with a reception immediately following at the church. A private burial will be held at Harnett Memorial Park.
