Johnny Dean Barbour was born on January 18,1952 in Danville, Virginia. Johnny's parents were Calvin and Clara Barbour (deceased), sister, Cheryl Barbour Walker and husband, Mark (Hickory, NC). Step brothers, Freddy Martin (Kernersville, NC), and Farley Martin (Danville, Va).
John is survived by his wife of 35 years, Judy Sutherland Barbour (Lillington, NC), two children, Lindy Barbour Gilbert (Lillington, NC), and son, Joseph Dean Barbour (Willow Springs, NC). Grand daughters include Josilyn Rose Gilbert (8 years young) and Sierra (4 years young). Additionally his loving dogs and cats who will miss his gentleness and companionship.
John served in the US Navy as an aeronautical engineer on the USS Independence, he earned his associate degree from Danville Community College in Electronics and went on to have a successful career for over thirty two years with Duke Energy where he worked with some great men and women. After retiring he worked part-time at Campbell University as an IT technician, he loved his work there and the friends who made his days bright in retirement.
In closing, John was a man of few words but he was a loyal and dedicated husband, a loving father and grandfather. On January 29, 2021 John passed away in his sleep to awake in heaven and all who knew him take great comfort that they will see him again.
