John "Mac" MacNeil Obituary

Retired MSgt John Robert “Mac” MacNeil, 60, of Fayetteville passed away Wednesday, December 04, 2019 after a long and hard fight with Pancreatic Cancer.

Mac is a decorated Air Force Veteran who served during Operation Enduring Freedom. He proudly fought for and served his country with honor and valor for 21 years. During his Air Force Career, he earned numerous medals, including the Humanitarian Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal with one bronze service star, the Southwest Asia Service Medal with two bronze service stars, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal, along with many others. Throughout his service, he not only gained many friends, but an entire Port Dawg Family who he loved, cherished and respected very much.

He grew up in Medway, Massachusetts, the son of John W. MacNeil and Claudette F. MacNeil. He had many loves, including his Scottish Heritage, his family, and the Boston Red Sox, but most of all spending time with his daughter, Amber.

Mac is survived by his daughter, Amber L. MacNeil; son, Jarrod MacNeil; his parents, John W. MacNeil and Claudette F. MacNeil; his brothers, Daniel J. MacNeil (Milton Nolan), Michael MacNeil and his sister, Leanne M Moore (Ed Moore). He also leaves behind his step children, Chelsey Hewitt, Tabitha Owen and Caleb Hewitt; his nieces and nephews, Victoria Patton, Claudette MacNeil, John MacNeil, Nathan Moore, Lilly Moore and Natalie Moore; his grandchildren, Jack Hewitt and Elijah Owen; his granddog, Sqwerr, and many, many friends.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, December 12, 2019 at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at pancan.org.
