John Boyd "J.B." Mason

John Boyd (J.B.) Mason (84) of Lillington went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 18, 2021 after a brief illness. He was born in Harnett County on July 22, 1936 to John David and Mildred Wilborn Mason.  He was preceded in death by his parents John and Mildred Mason; his wives: Sue Gaskin and Ann Mason.  He is survived by his daughter, Deloris Mason Suggs (Steve Brown), and grandson Johnathan Lee Suggs.  He is also survived by his sister Janet M. Boone (Joe) and three nieces, Tammy B. Johnson (Dan), Sandra B. Wester (Steve), Brenda B. Furtick (Rusty) and many great nieces and nephews as well as great-great nieces and nephews.

J.B. never met a stranger and was a friend to all he met.  He had a gentle and kind spirit and found joy in the simple things of life.  He was known for his love of cars and could wash and detail a car better than anyone.  He loved the time he spent with Melvin Yow during Melvin’s racing days. J.B. knew about every NASCAR race driver and could tell from memory every race and when and who won it.

J.B. loved Sunday School and had over 30 years of perfect attendance in the Presbyterian faith.  In his sixties he had a moving experience with the Lord Jesus Christ and was baptized into the Baptist faith.  He was an active member of the church, especially the Baptist men and continued his involvement for some time even after he moved to Lillington after the death of his wife in 2007.   

Friends are invited to visit O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home on Sunday, March 21, 2021 between the hours of 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM to pay their respects to Mr. Mason. The family will not be present during this time. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, March 22, 2021 at Westview Cemetery in Lillington with Rev. Daniel Selman officiating.
