Mr. John “Boe” Caviness McArtan, 82, of Fayetteville died Thursday, September 17, 2020 at the home of his daughter in Lillington. He was born in Harnett County, the son of the late Angus and Myrtle Shaw McArtan. John was also preceded in death by his wife, Fay McArtan; sisters, Alma Kennedy, Alice Wilder, Catherine Barnes and brother, Fred McArtan. He retired from the N.C. Department of Corrections after 33 of years of service. John was a member of Flat Branch Covenant Presbyterian Church in Bunnlevel. He loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He was a wonderful father and caregiver to his family.
John is survived by his daughter, Lisa McArtan Brown and husband, Joseph Michael Brown of Lillington; son, Barry Caviness McArtan of Bunnlevel; 4 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; fiancé, Erika Schroeder of Fayetteville; sisters, Evelyn McArtan Bordeaux of Bunnlevel and Jean McArtan Brown and husband Leon Brown of Climax; several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Westview Cemetery in Lillington with Rev. Glen Hallead officiating. The family will receive friends at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home Saturday from 3:00-3:45 PM and others times at the home of Lisa and Joseph Brown.
In accordance with current North Carolina COVID-19 guidelines, the funeral home requests that everyone in attendance practice social distancing and wear a face covering.
