Master Chief Petty Officer (Ret.) John Oliver Sandrock, 69, of Lillington, NC passed away Sunday May 8, 2022, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
He was born April 6, 1953, in Fayetteville, NC to the late Katie Livingston Sandrock and John Sandrock. John was preceded in death by his sisters, Julie Sandrock and Terry Wedeking; and his brother, Tommy Sandrock.
John served his country honorably as a Radioman in the United States Navy Submarine Service, retiring at the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer. He would continue to serve as a Veteran Services Officer for 11 years in Lee County. John was a faithful and dedicated member of Crossroads Church in Lillington. He loved riding motorcycles, fishing, and spending time outdoors with his faithful puppies Molly Wrinkles, All the Way Mae and Puchin. John loved serving others and helping his neighbors with any task. He enjoyed visiting his home in Stella, NC near Emerald Isle. Most of all, he cherished the memories shared with his beloved family.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Maggie Jones Sandrock; his son, John Earl Sandrock and wife Sarah; his grandson, Henry Dean Sandrock; his brother Jack Sandrock and partner Valerie; his sister, Kathy Crabb and husband Jeff; and his stepmother Jane Herring Sandrock.
The family will receive friends from 12-2PM on Saturday May 21 at O'Quinn Peebles Phillips Funeral Home, 1310 S. Main Street in Lillington. A Celebration of Life will be held following the visitation at 2:30PM at the Ernest Simmons VFW Post 6722, 409 S. Main Street in Lillington.
