John M. McLeod

Mr. John M. McLeod, 89, of Lillington passed away Monday, May 24, 2021 at Rex Healthcare in Raleigh. He was born in Harnett County, the son of the late William and Annie McNeill McLeod. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his siblings, Melrow McLeod, Pershing McLeod, Robena Davis, Ruth Rogers, Christine Hudson, Thomas McLeod, Illene McLeod, Malcom McLeod, Latham McLeod, Jane Jones, William McPhail and Daniel McPhail.

John worked and retired after 37 years of service with the Harnett County School System. He worked as the Maintenance Supervisor from 1981 until 1993. John enjoyed gardening, deep sea fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.

John is survived by his wife of 64 years, Pearl Young McLeod of the home; 2 daughters, Karen McLeod of the home and Teresa West and husband, Rickie of Lillington; grandson, Johnathan West and fiancé Leigh Hankins of Angier; 3 sisters, Evelyn M. Ellis of Lillington, Jenny Allen of Mamers, Cathy Collins and husband Donald of Mamers; brother, Neil McPhail and wife Cindy of Lillington; many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, May 28, 2021 at Antioch Baptist Church in Mamers with Rev. Rick Beacham officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Friday from 2:00-2:45 PM and other times at the home. Friends are invited to visit O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home on Thursday between the hours of 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM to pay their respects to Mr. McLeod. The family will not be present during this time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28201 or Antioch Baptist Church, P.O. Box 525, Mamers, NC 27552.
