Jimmy Lynn Byrd, 59, of Broadway, passed away peacefully, Saturday, February 18, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family.
Jimmy was born April 13, 1963 in Lee County to the late Carol Ray Brown and Charles Lee Byrd, Sr. He was graduate of Western Harnett High School and attended Central Carolina Community College and DeVry University of Georgia. He was owner of Byrd Custom Construction with whom his son, Aaron, was an integral part of and he was the former owner of Eagles Nest Convenience Store in Broadway, NC.
Jimmy loved life and lived like every day was his last. His work ethic and desire to provide for his family led him to work various jobs that helped him to become an experienced home improvement specialist for his own company, Byrd Custom Construction. One of his biggest accomplishments in life was being a father. He taught his children to be strong, and he always had good advice, even if you weren’t ready to hear it. He loved his family with passion, and he was a fierce protector of his loved ones. He was passionate about his wife, Gwen, and would often send her flowers for no other reason than to say he loved her. Some of his greatest joys in life were his grandbabies and his fur babies. Jimmy was always the life of the party, and he loved being a jokester. He always had some kind of trick or joke up his sleeve and loved to get a reaction out of long-time friends and new ones. He had a great ability to make others smile and his sense of humor will be missed. Jimmy loved to relax and often enjoyed trips to the beach with his family. He was an avid fan of the Carolina Tar Heels, and cheered them on whether through basketball, football, or baseball. He didn’t discriminate when it came to the Tar Heels, he loved them all. Aside from his love of sports, one of Jimmy’s favorite activities was riding around in his Chevy truck and talking to everyone he saw; he never met a stranger. Jimmy was beloved by all, and he will truly be missed.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Doreen Benham Ray, Thomas Landon Ray, Bertha Byrd Dennis, and Wright Dennis.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 4 years, Gwen Clayton Byrd; daughter, Heather Byrd Creasy (Carlton Creasy III); son, Aaron Landon Byrd (Candace Capps); step-daughter, Maggie Alexandra Brafford (John Paul Taylor); step-son, Adam Clayton Brafford (Kaley Brafford); step-father, Dwight Brown; grandchildren, Bailey Ray Byrd, Carlton Ray Creasy IV, Paisley Hart Brafford, and Adam James Brafford; sisters, Peggy Byrd Lynch, Charlene Byrd Harrington (Dale); brothers, James “Eddie” Byrd, Charles Lee “Chuck” Byrd, Jr., and Johnny Ray Byrd (Lori); and many nieces and nephews.
