Jeannette Barber Smith Owen, 78, of Wendell, North Carolina, passed away on May 5, 2026, in Harnett County. She was born on October 23, 1947, in Durham County to the late Fred Barber Smith and Geneva Jernigan Smith.

In addition to her parents, Jeannette was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Owen, and her son, Richie Owen.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Teresa Hawkins and husband David; her son, Rodney Owen; and her cherished grandchildren, Parker, Jackson, and Sawyer. She is also survived by her sisters, Becky Apple and husband Bill, and Joy Owen and husband Steve, as well as several nieces and nephews, including Karen, Greg, and Emily.

Jeannette had a deep love for her family and treasured the time she spent with them. Her grandchildren hold fond memories of their grandmother cheering them on at their sporting events. In recent years, as her health declined, she spent more time at the home of Teresa and David, where she enjoyed sitting on the porch, watching the dogs play, and listening to the peaceful sounds of nature. She especially found joy in watching Sawyer train his dog, Bubba.

Jeannette will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
