Janie Underwood Green

Janie Underwood Green, 86 of Lillington passed away Monday, February 16 at Universal Healthcare surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 26, 1939, to the late Clyde Underwood and Vera Price Underwood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John Charles “Pete” Green.

She retired from the Department of Social Services as a Clerk in 2002. Janie enjoyed time spent with her little dog Lexi as well as crocheting in her spare time.

Janie is survived by her sons Tony Matthews and Marshall Matthews of Lillington; grandchildren Heather, Holly, Johnathan, and Ayden; sisters Jessie Lockamy, Joyce Gregory (Jerry), Nancy Tart (Glenn), Susie Johnson (Wayne); and brother JC Underwood (Dot).

The family will receive friends Thursday February 19, 2026, from 10:00 A.M. to 10:45 A.M. at Pleasant Union Christian Church, 2164 Neills Creek Road, Lillington NC 27546. A funeral service will follow at 11 A.M. in the church sanctuary. Services will conclude with burial in the church cemetery.
