James Martin (Marty) Pessagno, 78, of Lillington, NC, passed away on February 13, 2025, at Cape Fear Valley Hospital, Fayetteville after a brief illness. Before moving to Lillington, Marty lived in Mayo, MD on the Ramsey Bay for over 60 years.
Marty was born in Washington, DC and graduated from Bladensburg High School in 1966. After graduation, he went to work as a machinist for Logan Machinists and became a journeyman machinist for Machinists Incorporated. He was the proud owner of successful printing machinist and rigging companies, servicing large and small printers throughout the DMV.
He was a long-term parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Edgewater, MD, serving as a member of the parish counsel. Marty was a past Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus of Annapolis Council #1384.
Marty loved the water, fishing and boating. He took up model trains as a hobby, taking time to craft unique and intricate boards that he’d refine and happily share with his grandkids.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Joan of Lillington, NC, his son Anthony (Staci) of Edgewater, MD, his son Theodore (Henya) of Riva, MD and 8 grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kyle, Isabelle, Cole, Theodore, Sophia, Simon and Gina. He is preceded in death by his parents James and Catherine Pessagno and his sisters Elaina Cratty and Patricia Firestein.
A Catholic Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, August 14th at 11am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 515 Loch Haven Road, Edgewater, MD, followed by burial at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 1911 Forest Drive, Annapolis. After the services, all are invited to join the family for a catered lunch at The Atreeum at Soaring Timbers (Knights of Columbus), 610 N. Bestgate Road, Annapolis.
