James William “Bill” Jones, 83, of Lillington, passed away, Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Betsy Johnson Hospital in Dunn, NC. 

Bill was born April 18, 1940 in Harnett County to the late William Levie Jones and Isabelle Coats Jones.  He was a graduate of Buies Creek High School, Campbell University, and East Carolina University.  Bill worked with the NC Department of Correction as a probation parole officer, retiring as a district manager, after 34 years of service to the community.  Throughout his life, Bill enjoyed time with family and friends at both the coast and the mountains of NC, as well as his farm life in Harnett County. 

He was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Thomas Jones.

Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carolyn Beal Jones; numerous cousins; and his four-legged companion, Max.     

A funeral service will be held 11am Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 1310 S. Main St., Lillington, NC 27546 with Rev. Lee Smith officiating.  Burial will follow the service at Harnett Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends 10am – 11am prior to the service at the funeral home.
