James Goff

Mr. James Edward Goff, 81, of Lillington passed away Friday July 12, 2019 at his home. He was born in Saluda Co., SC the son of the late Jimmy C. Goff and Lillian T. Goff. James was also preceded in death by his daughter, Kim Barbour; siblings, Virginia Steadman, Lamond Goff and Richard Goff. He was a graduate of his beloved Clemson University and N.C. State University. James began his Agriculture Extension career in Brunswick County, NC working as a 4H agent. He moved to Harnett County as a 4H agent and was later promoted to County Chairman. James enjoyed fellowshipping with his fellow 4H agents in various activities. He was a member and Sunday school teacher at Lillington United Methodist Church for many years. James was also an active member of the Lillington Lions Club. Among his many community service activities, James enjoyed reading to the visually impaired at WFSS radio station Fayetteville State University. He loved watching sports especially Clemson athletics. He also enjoyed watching racing, Gunsmoke and Jeopardy with his wife, Carolyn. James was known for his laughter, joke telling and ability to sell tickets for his favorite civic organizations.

James is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carolyn Elizabeth Ruff Goff; son, Jamie Goff and wife Karen; 4 grandchildren, Rachel Robbins and husband Stephen, Jimmy Goff, Danielle Merritt and husband Jay and Justin Barbour; 8 loving great-grandchildren; brother, Charles Goff and wife Barbara; many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home Wednesday July 17, 2019 from 1:00-1:45 PM. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Stephen Robbins officiating. Burial will follow in Harnett Memorial Park.
