Jacqueline "Jackie" Smith Obituary

Jacqueline "Jackie" Adams Smith of Harnett and Brunswick Counties went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 2, 2024

Born April 17, 1928 to Everett Otis Adams and Nellie Virginia Adams, she is survived by her children; Debbie S. Jackson (Harry) of Dunn; Jeffrey L. Smith (Bernice) of Kipling; Jennifer S. Harrop (Don) of Angier; grandchildren: Tracy Jackson of Dunn; Dawn Hampton (Jim) of Dunn; Stephanie Moore of Elizabeth City, NC, Ashley Blalock of New York, NY; Clint Harrop of Angier; great-grandchildren: Colby and Alexandra Jackson, Cole and Riley Hampton and Emma Moore.

Jackie is at last reunited with her lifelong love, Ralston L. Smith, who passed before her in 2018.  In addition to her parents, she is also predeceased by her siblings: Odell Adams, Rex Adams, Conrad Adams, Elbert Joseph Adams, Brookie A. Smith, Hazeleen A. Pleasant, Helen A. Stewart, Nancy A. Hart, Gail A. Gregory and great-grandson, Cade Hampton.

Being raised in Angier on a farm with nine siblings, Jackie was born between two boys and thus became known as "the tomboy" of the family.  She attended Angier School where she starred in basketball as well as holding the titles of "Best All Around" and "Most Popular" in the class of 1944.

For over 25 years Jackie worked alongside of her husband, Ralston who was a self-employed businessman.  In addition to raising her family, she was the secretary/receptionist and office manager of R.L. Smith Company in Lillington.  Ralston did the work; Jackie kept everyone straight! She and Ralston retired to Brunswick County in 1983 where they continued a full and active life.  Their home was always open to family and friends, where they enjoyed sharing meals around their table.

Jackie was a former member of Lillington Baptist Church.  Upon their move to Brunswick County, she and Ralston were instrumental in forming and building Brunswick Islands Baptist Church where they served for many years.  After returning to Angier in 2014, Jackie moved her membership to Angier Baptist Church where she enjoyed her final years in the community from which she started.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, April 8th at Harnett Memorial Park (50 E. Cornelius Harnett Blvd., Lillington, NC) beginning at 2:00 PM.  The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the hospice of your choice, or to Angier Baptist Church, PO Box 130, Angier, NC  27501.
