Hortense Parker Obituary

Mrs. Hortense D. Parker went to her heavenly home on Saturday, November 7, 2020.

For the past 4 ½  years, she had been a resident of Universal Healthcare in Fuquay-Varina.  She was the only child of Sumner G. and Flonnie N. Davis.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, L. Curtis Parker, her son, C. Ray Parker, son-in-law, K. Gwyn Wester, and her grandson, Kenneth L. Wester.

She and Curtis spent the majority of their time farming, especially tobacco.  Also, she worked part-time at Ray’s Department Store, Womble’s Store, and volunteering at Lee County Hospital for 20 years following the death of her husband.

She loved doing for others, sharing her cooking talents with family and friends, as well as attending various activities at her beloved Antioch Baptist Church.  She was one of the original “gad abouts” and cherished the special times these ladies were together.

She is survived by her daughter, Jeanette P. Wester; her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn P. and Fred Sykes; grandchildren Jeffrey S. Wester, Julie D. Wester, Landis G. Parker and wife Samantha, Jonathan Todd Sykes, and Kristin S. Fleming and husband Robert Loyd Fleming III.  Additionally, she is survived by great-grandchildren Kimberly Wester, Hannah Wester, Breanna Mullen, Erin Wester, Rhea Parker, Caroline Fleming, Andrew Fleming, and Zoe Sykes.  Great great-grandchildren include Kaitlyn Moore, Karter Moore and Grayson Pyles.

Funeral services will be held at Antioch Baptist Church, in Mamers, on Tuesday, November 10, 2020, at 3 pm with Rev. Rick Beacham presiding.  The burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery.

Friends are invited to visit the funeral home on Tuesday, November 10, 2020, between the hours of 9 am and 12 noon to pay their respects to Mrs. Parker.

Flowers are welcome, but memorials may be made to Antioch Baptist Men, PO Box 525, Mamers, NC 27552.
