Herman Floyd Tyson, 72, of Buies Creek passed away July 30, 2025, at his home. He was born January 28, 1953, in Wilmington, NC to the late Norman and Dorothy Tyson.
He graduated from New Hanover High School in 1971 and was a devoted Wildcats supporter. Herman’s Electronic Technology degree brought him to Campbell University where he retired after 35 years of service. He was a valuable part of the music program where he participated in Pep Band, Wind Ensemble, and Wind Symphony. Herman was a dedicated volunteer firefighter with Buies Creek Fire Department for 29 years serving many roles including firefighter, safety officer, and board member.
Herman is survived by his wife of 46 years Fran Tyson; son, Andrew “Andy” Tyson (Anika); daughters, Amanda Pollard (Mitchell) and Amy Nipper (Jacob); grandchildren, Miranda, Ayden, Callie, Mackenna, Anastasia, Alexander, Chase, and Claira; brothers, Jerry (Lisa) and Tim (Theresa, deceased) Tyson; aunt Linda Bagwell; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 6 to 8 pm at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Sunday August 3, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Crossroads Church in Lillington with Rev. Charles Price and Pastor Ken Dalton. Burial will follow in the Buies Creek Cemetery.
