Hazel O’Dell Lee Byrd August 20, 1938 – September 5, 2022 Hazel O’Dell Lee Byrd, age 84, of Havre, Montana, formerly of Lillington, North Carolina, died on September 5, 2022 at the Northern Montana Care Center in Havre, Montana. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on September 10, 2022 in the Grace Chapel at Northern Montana Care Center.
Hazel was born August 20, 1938 to Eugene and Lillie (Truelove) Lee in Dunn, North Carolina. She married Jack Byrd on August 20, 1954 and they had three children. They were divorced in 1970. On December 1, 1978, she married Troy Betts Byrd in Wentworth, Rockingham County, North Carolina.
She worked for Lillington Shirt Factory for 13 years and later became employed by Swift Denim (formerly Erwin Mills); where she worked for 28 years until her retirement in 1998. Her love of flowers found her working for Ann’s Flowers as a retirement job. In 2018, after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease she moved to Montana to be closer to her daughter and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Troy in 2003; a brother Jimmie Lee in 1944; a brother Douglas Lee in 2015; a sister Joan Stone in 2016; her sons, James Melvin Byrd in 1973 and Eugene Byrd in 2014.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ginger and Wayne Chagnon of Havre, Montana; grandchildren: Jessica (Danny) Boyer of Great Falls, Montana; Ryan Chagnon of Great Falls, Montana; Gray (Ashlee) Chagnon of Havre, Montana and Leslie Benoit of Gulfport, Mississippi; and six great grandchildren, Ashton Sewell, Haven Sewell, Carter Chagnon, Charleigh Boyer, Gannon Chagnon and Watson Chagnon; sisters, Edie Rich of Dunn, North Carolina and Janie Gonzales of Raleigh, North Carolina; brothers, Brent (Dawn) Lee of Erwin, North Carolina and Harold (Kathy) Turlington, Jr. of Dunn, North Carolina.
A funeral service will be held at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Lillington, North Carolina at 11:00 a.m. on September 16, 2022 with burial immediately following at Westview Cemetery in Lillington. Holland & Bonine and O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Homes are in charge of the arrangements.
