Obituary

Harold Lee Lassiter, Sr., 81, peacefully passed into the arms of his Lord and Savior, on Feb. 10, 2023, following a lengthy period of poor health. In sickness and in health, Harold faithfully loved and served the Lord. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, granddaddy and great granddaddy. Truly, he cherished his friendships in the Lillington community and found a stranger in no one.

Following in the steps of his Heavenly Father, Harold witnessed to others in word and deed. He selflessly sacrificed for his family, always putting others before himself. His honest and caring example was evident not only to his family, but also the many people with whom he worked and served. Providing service to Lillington and five other communities, Harold and his siblings co-owned and operated nationally recognized Piggly Wiggly grocery stores. His knowledge of finance and the local community made him a valuable member on the board of First Bank Lillington. When his family moved to the community in 1969, they joined Lillington Baptist Church. Harold served on the Deacon Board and various church committees for many years, assisted with management of finances and cherished Christian fellowship with members of the Simmons Bible Class.

The family would like to thank Pastor Daniel Selman, members of Lillington Baptist Church and the community for their support during the past two years. Your calls, cards, visits and helping hands lifted the entire family in this time of need. Harold held dear the time he shared with the employees who worked beside him in the aisles and behind the registers of the grocery store, with his golfing buddies on the links at Keith Hills, with his fishing friends on the shore at Cape Lookout and his family at annual grocery conventions and cruises. The stories of the times he shared with so many of you have reminded the family of the joy that Harold found in living and in the people he loved.

Harold is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Carolyn Lassiter; daughter, Kimberly Lassiter Watson [husband, William “Bill” Watson]; son, Harold Lassiter, Jr. [wife, Dhedra “Dede” Lassiter]; grandson, Will Watson [wife, Dr. Kelly Boyd]; grandson, Wes Watson; great-grandson, Liam Watson, and many nieces and nephews and their families. Harold was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Desma Lassiter; father, William Carlton Lassiter, Sr.; sister, Dixie Lewis; brothers, William Carlton Lassiter, Jr., Glenn Ballard Lassiter, and Robert Edward Lassiter, Sr.

A celebration of life will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at Lillington Baptist Church, 210 W. Lofton Street, Lillington, NC. Pastor Daniel Selman will officiate. Visitation will be held at 10AM in the sanctuary. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery in Lillington.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Lillington Baptist Church, PO Box 670, Lillington, NC 27546.
