Gerald (“Gerry”) Seifert, 93, of Lexington, KY, formerly of Broadway, NC, died March 28, 2023, at Baptist Central Medical Center. He was born in New York, New York in 1930, to Samuel and Hattie Seifert.
Gerry’s education ranged from pre-veterinary studies at Rutgers University, to a law degree at Indiana University (Indianapolis), and finally a master’s degree in marine affairs from the University of Rhode Island. His career path was equally varied – U.S. Army during the Korean War, volunteer firefighter, purchasing agent, Indiana Supreme Court law clerk, lobbyist (in numerous industries), health law publishing executive, U.S. Congress subcommittee legal counsel (Merchant Marines and Fisheries), and college professor (constitutional law and government) at Methodist University (Fayetteville, North Carolina).
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son (David H. Seifert), and his beloved wife of 35 years, Sarah (Peggy) Stewart Seifert.
He is survived by his daughter (Rachel Seifert); brothers-in-law, Jimmy Stewart (Wyatt), Caviness Stewart; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews (Jacob, Abby, Nina, and Alex).
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, April 30, 2023 at Spring Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery in Lillington.
