Gary Franklin Ostheim

Gary Franklin Ostheim passed away in his sleep on Thursday October 22, 2020, at Emerald Health and Rehabilitation in Lillington North Carolina. Gary was born in Tiffin, Ohio, in 1940 to the late Mary Jane (Kirchner) and Robert Ostheim. For four years Gary served in the United States Air Force as an aircraft radio repair technician.

Gary was an unrelenting deliverer of corny jokes. When he wasn’t making his son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Kristin Ostheim groan, he was sharing his wealth of interests with his five grandsons, Zachary Ostheim , Justin Ostheim, Tyler Ostheim, Braydon Ostheim and Nikolas Dunlap, all of Sanford, North Carolina.

During his life, Gary pursued many interests; he was an avid HAM amateur radio operator, bar owner, private pilot, real estate broker, and a long-haul trucker. During his tenure as a professional driver, Gary drove for Clemson University athletics, and this was his most proud position.  Gary enjoyed tinkering with household items.  Many items were taken apart and put back together, an interest he shared with his grandsons. During his life Gary developed Parkinson’s Disease, and he fought tirelessly for his quality of life.

Gary was preceded in death by his nephew, Garrett Ostheim and sister-in-law, Lois Ostheim.

Gary is survived by four brothers, Ron Ostheim of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Dennis Ostheim of Florida, Robert (Diane) Ostheim of Florida, and Mark (Phyllis) Ostheim of Mount Olive, North Carolina; and many nieces, and Nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 3 o'clock p.m. on Monday, October 26, 2020, at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 1310 S. Main Street, Lillington, NC.
