Fred West, Jr.

Mr. Fred West, Jr., 85, of Lillington passed away Monday, June 14, 2021 at Senter’s Memory Care in Fuquay-Varina. He was born in Johnston County, the son of the late Fred West, Sr. and Myrtle O’Neal West. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Samida and husband, Tony of Tucson, AZ. Fred retired after 30 years of service with the N.C. Department of Corrections and 21 years of service with the Harnett County Sheriff’s Department. He also retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserve and U.S. Army National Guard with a combined 30 years of service. He loved spending time with family, especially his granddaughter, Karlye.

Fred is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty Lou West of the home; daughter, Marsha Abney and husband David of Lillington; granddaughter, Karlye Abney of Lillington; brother, Joe West and wife, Carolyn of Zebulon; 3 nieces, Shelly, Angelia and Victoria.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, June 18, 2021 at Antioch Baptist Church in Mamers with Rev. Rick Beacham officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM and other times at the home of Marsha and David Abney.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Antioch Baptist Church, P.O. Box 525, Mamers, NC 27552.
